Frequently Asked Questions
Solar rental allows you to enjoy the benefits of solar energy without the upfront costs. Depending on what package you choose you’ll pay a fixed monthly fee for the solar equipment for the duration of your contract, while we take care of any maintenance and support that may arise.
The financing terms vary based on whether you select a residential or commercial plan:
- Residential: Financing is available for up to 7 years.
- Commercial: Financing is available for up to 5 years, with escalation options.
Flexible terms can also be negotiated to suit your specific needs.
There are no hidden costs associated with our solar rental packages. We provide transparent pricing on all our quotes, so you always know where you stand and what to expect. If there is anything unclear, you are always welcome to speak to one of our sales consultants.
For individual applications, we will always need:
- A minimum income of R40 000 p/m
- A copy of your ID;
- Your utility bill if you own the property or your landlord details if you don’t; and
- A bank confirmation letter of the account in your name to be debited each month.
Our credit team will also generally require 3 months’ pay slips and 3 months of bank statements.
For a business application- the document requirements for businesses vary and your account manager will let you know what the credit team requires to process your business’s application.
Should the main applicant be older than 75, you will need to apply jointly with someone younger than you. This can be your partner, spouse or child.
Once we’ve completed a site inspection, installations will typically take between 1 to 3 days to complete. However, factors such as unforeseen weather conditions, system size and existing non-compliant electrical wiring may delay the installation beyond this time frame.
All our installations include a certificate of compliance on completion of the installation. Our technical team will verify your home’s existing state of compliance and issue a certificate in accordance with South African national regulations.
No, as all our packages are ‘rent-to-own’ the system is yours at the end of your contract.
Yes, at Greencoin Solar we are more than happy to help you create a custom package to suit your needs. You are also able to expand your rental system at any time by adding more panels and batteries to meet increased energy needs at an additional rental cost.
In terms of the Consumer Protection Act you can cancel the agreement at any time, on 20 days’ notice. Please note, however, you will be responsible for paying a settlement amount.
Yes, you can claim tax incentives on your solar panels. However, please speak to a qualified TAX practitioner to help you structure your claims correctly in order to benefit from the tax incentives available in your area.
Should you be at the end of your rental contract you may add the solar to the selling price of the property and the new owner will simply inherit the solution with the property; or
The buyer of the property may, subject to a credit assessment, request to take over of the remaining agreement. If this is approved, then your agreement will simultaneously cancel on signature of the agreement in the new property buyer’s name.
